We are a small scale, family ran farm located in North Florida. Chicks and fertile eggs will be offered as they become available on a first come first serve basis. Availablility will be posted on our Facebook page first! All orders will be made through direct communication using Facebook messenger and payment will be processed through PayPal or Venmo to @Mojohomesteadfl on both platforms. Please follow any of our social media links to connect with us to discuss availability of chicks or fertile eggs!
After we became more knowledgeable about chickens and different breeds, we started on a path to expand the colors in our egg baskets. Somewhere along the path we were introduced to different personalities in different breeds, as well as some incredibly beautiful plumage. The breeds we've chosen to incubate are those who have become our favorites here at Mojo Homestead for various reasons.
Although our flocks are always a work in progress We chose our breeding stock with consideration of SOP as well as for egg color, temperament, as well as health and vigor. We raise all of our chickens as pets, offering the same love and care as we do to any other pet on our farm.
We are an NPIP/AI clean farm. We are mindful to only introduce new stock from other NPIP certified farms, and practice strict quarantine and biosecurity measures.
Some things to note before purchasing: When you choose to purchase from us, we assume that you have read and understand the following information:
We have worked exceptionally hard to cultivate breeding flocks with recognition of breed standards, in addition to special attention to temperament, health and vigor as well as vibrant egg colors. However, there are always areas we are working to improve. We’ve been mindful to share photos here of some of our current breeding flocks each season as well as some grow outs we’ve produced and their egg colors. With that being said, breeding is not an exact science and sometimes abnormalities or undesired traits pop up in offspring that were un intended. Breeding two show quality birds does not guarantee show quality offspring. Breeding from the darkest black copper Marans eggs does not guarantee that her offspring will lay that dark. Additionally Due to the multi generational nature of our olive eggers, they do offer the potential for brown eggs from their offspring although our breeding practices are done with the intention of creating offspring who lay darker olives, teals, spearmints and greens.
Day old chicks may be reserved and shipped. Shipping up to 25 chicks, with a 6 chick minimum, will be a flat rate of $65. All chicks will be shipped express and held at post office for pick up. We will pack chicks with care and consideration however, so many things can happen between the time the chicks leave our hands and when they make it into yours. Rough handling and time delays at the post office are two common reasons for casualties while shipping chicks. Because of this we can not make any guarantees on shipped chicks. **We are not currently offering chicks**
Fertilized eggs We test for fertility weekly. However, there are several reasons, all of which are completely out of our control, that we are unable to guarantee viability or hatch rates with shipped eggs:
🥚Post office handling and unexpected shipping delays. Our eggs will always be collected within 5 days of shipping and inspected for cracks. We are experienced shippers. Each dozen purchased will be carefully packaged in foam shippers and then double boxed to ensure maximum protection during their journey. Even with all the right precautions before shipment though, sometimes rough handling or delayed shipment time have negative effect viability.
🥚Incubator malfunctions and personal incubation methods are totally beyond our control. On our farm we typically see a hatch rate of about 80% (with the exception of our silkies and olives, I swear those eggs would hatch in any circumstance). We incubate monthly and are well practiced with our incubators and acclimated with our standing temps and humidity here in Florida. We’ve found that our darker Marans eggs and Olives in particular require more consideration about humidity than other breeds. With all of this being said, these are some other reasons why we simply can not guarantee hatch rates on shipped eggs, or really, any egg not hatched here on our farm. From our own experience, we do have a few recommendations for handling your shipped eggs! -Once you receive your eggs remove them carefully and inspect for cracks and hairline fractures, and place them pointy side down in an egg cartoon for 1-3 days before setting in the incubator. ***UPDATE*** If incubating in an incubator that holds the eggs upright and gives you the ability to effect the frequency of turning by the egg turner - the we've had success moving the eggs right into the incubator after shipping, without any resting time. *Note* that this method has proven to work best in incubators like The Brinesea Ovations, Chickcozy and Hatching Time incubators (not farm innovators, NEVER farm innovators). Eggs should always be incubate pointy side down.
-When you set your eggs in the incubator, leave the egg turner off for 1-3 days at the start of incubation. This is to allow the air cells to settle after shipping.
-After 5 days of incubation candle to check air sacs. If you find that they are "Saddled", meaning they have taken on a type of wonky shape and are not nice and oval around the wide end of the egg, or that the air cells have not settled fully, then it's okay to keep the egg turner off for a few more days. You can hand turn eggs that are ready sooner than others by simply rocking them gently back and forth.
-If your incubator does not support holding eggs upright such as NR360's, then you can cut up an egg carton so that you can use each individual space to hold your eggs up right. I call these Egg Bras.
- I have a multitude of videos about hatching shipped eggs on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook and Patreon.
Reimbursement Policy: With immediate communication upon receipt of live chicks, assuming pick up was facilitated on the date the post office promised delivery, and within 1 hour of contact form the post office for pick up, we are willing to offer reimbursement for the cost of any chick who is received DOA.
No reimbursement will be offered for any shipping costs.
**There will be no refunds or reships offered for shipped eggs for any reason** Hatching eggs are never guaranteed are always non-refundable and non-replacable.
We will always take measures to keep up with fertilization in our breeding pens and we will always ship you our freshest eggs. However, due to the unpredictable nature of handling while shipping and individual incubation methods we can not be held responsible for hatch rates.
We've been shipping eggs for years and have developed a professional, proven method for shipping that has even been referred to as "boujie" - We use foam shippers in a #4 USPS box, and then safely double box that box inside of a #7 USPS box for added protection and shock absorption. We do everything on our end to ensure that eggs are going to be as safe as possible and arrive with air cells *hopefully* in tact. But, things happen. We can not be held responsible for any broken eggs upon arrival.
Thank you all for reaching out and your continued support!
This season we've decided to do things a little different than seasons prior. Hatching Eggs will be offered on a first come first serve basis and any additional dozens available will be advertised through our Facebook page (Link at bottom of this page). Please send a message through Facebook to discuss availability, shipping and payment. Shipping on hatching eggs is a flat rate of $25 per dozen / Shipping on live chicks is a flat rate of $60 per dozen.
We hope this update answers any questions you may have! We love meeting you all and look forward to working with you.
Our Breeds
Black Copper Marans
Marans are named after the historic town where they originated in in France. Marans are most distinctly known for and sought after because of their large dark brown eggs. They are easily one of our favorite breeds. in addition to being beautiful dual purpose birds marines are incredibly well tempered. Our Marans roosters have always been the most perfect gentleman, graciously caring for their flocks while showing the same grace with their owners.
Hatching Eggs Eggs: $75 per dozen/$100 per dozen shipped
Wheaten Marans
Like their Black Copper counterparts Wheaten Marans are known for their richly colored, chocolatey brown eggs. These line in particular tend to throw heavily speckled eggs and would be a lovely addition to any egg basket or Olive Breeding Program. These birds are hardy and daily egg layers.
Wheaten is a variety that will carry BBS genetics. In this pen you will find a Wheaten Rooster over Wheaten, Blue Wheaten and Splash Wheaten Hens. So - you can expect potential offspring to also be any of these color varieties.

Multi-Generational Olive Eggers
In an effort to provide you (and us) with the most colorful egg baskets possible, we are offering a few different types of olive Eggers. We breed olives in multiple pens and breeding arrangements that will produce a mixture of First and Third generation Olives as well as First and Second Generation back crossed (both to dark brown layers and to true blue layers) Olives.
Please note that the only *guarenteed* green layers are First generation (F1) of olive eggers. Back crossed Olives give us potential for a great variation of colors stemming from darker greens, to teals and spearmints, but we have to expect that there is a 50% chance for those back crossed female offspring to lay brown eggs as well.
Hatching Eggs: $60 per dozen/$85 per dozen shipped
Bantam Mille/Calico Cochins
Bantam Cochins pack a whole lot of sweet inquisitive personality into a tiny package. They are one of our favorite breeds (maybe we say that about all of them!) We love Mille/Calicos are so fun because of their diverse coloring. Bantam Cochins are daily layers of small cream colored eggs and are a great addition of Broody Birds into your flock. We expect to have a strong presence of broody Cochins each season. Often time they'll go broody in pairs, hatching and raising chicks together. This flock will produce sweet and gentle birds who've proven to be incredibly hardy. Their smaller eggs are the absolute perfect size for pickling.
Hatching Eggs: $65 per dozen/$90 per dozen shipped
Blue Laced Red Wyandotte's
Cultivating this flock of Blue Laced Red Wyandottes has been an exhaustive learning process. These pictures really don’t do justice to how beautiful these babies are in person. Not to mention, they are a sweet, docile, daily laying breed. Due to the nature of blue/black/splash genetics, from this pen you can expect to receive 50% Blue, 25% Black and 25% Splash offspring. Wyandottes are layers of regular sized cream eggs. Although, around here our Wyandottes often offer us eggs that appear to be pink! Hatching Eggs: $75 per dozen/$100 per dozen shipped
Self-Blue / Black Ameraucanas
My interest with Ameraucanas was initially for integration into our Olive Breeding Programs. I loved their Muffs and Pea Combs as indications for Blue Egg genes in later generations of olives. It didn't take long for us to fall in love with this breed and all of the colorful varieties it has to offer.
Ameraucanas are True Blue layers. This means they carry two copies of the blue egg gene (they are homozygous for the blue egg gene).
This consists of a Self-Blue (Lavender) rooster over Lavender hens and Black hens who are split to lavender. Birds from this pen will offer you the potential for Self-Blue (Lavender) offspring, as well as black offspring who will be split to self-blue - They will be carrying a recessive Lavender gene.
Hatching Eggs $75 per dozen / $100 per dozen Shipped
Wheaten Ameraucanas
I was introduced to Wheaten Ameraucanas through researching the Isabel Variety. One of the things that attracted me to working with this particular variety was the scarcity of breeders working with this color in LF (large fowl) birds.
At least for now, this his pen will produce variations of Wheaten, Blue Wheaten and Splash Wheaten Offspring.
Ameraucanas are True Blue layers. This means they carry two copies of the blue egg gene (they are homozygous for the blue egg gene).
They are distinct by their Pea combs, Muffs and Beards and clean slate colored legs. Hatching Eggs $75 per dozen / $100 per dozen Shipped
Isabel / Wheaten Ameraucanas
Isabel Ameraucanas are a lovely variety that was created here in Florida by Luanne D'Amico at Eight Acres Farm. They were meticulously created from crossing Wheaten and Self-Blue (Lavender) lines of Ameraucanas. As a dilution gene Lavender not only dilutes black, it also dilutes red and gold - which is how we get this illustrious, porcelain color in our Isabel Offspring.
Isabel Amerucanas will breed true and produce Isabel offspring 100% of the time. But - we similarly to how we breed Lavender back to black every few generations in an effort to improve feather quality, we should also be mindful to breed Isabel birds back to wheaten. It is for this reason that you see a wheaten ameraucana pictured here. These pairings will produces Split offspring who will be carrying recessive Lavender Genetics.
Ive been unable to produce an Isabel Rooster who I feel comfortable using as a breeder. So - Currently Im currently using a Split male who is Wheaten/Isabel. Offspring from this pen will produce a combination of Isabel and Isabel/Wheaten Split offspring. Hatching Eggs $75 per dozen / $100 per dozen shipped.
Silver Ameraucaunas
Another lesser known variety of Ameracanas that I'm excited to be offering are Silver Ameraucanas. Like their other Ameraucana Counterparts Silver Ameraucanas are True Blue layers. This means they carry two copies of the blue egg gene (they are homozygous for the blue egg gene). They are distinct by their Pea combs, Muffs and Beards and clean slate colored legs.
Hatching Eggs $75 per dozen / $100 per dozen shipped.
Silver Welsummers
This stunning variety of Welsummer was created using Barred Rocks to introduce a Silver Base into Welsummer lines. Like Isabel Ameraucanas credit for the developement of this variety belongs to Luanne D’Amico over at Eight Acres Farm.
In addition to their captivating colors, these ladies are regular layers of large, medium colored brown, speckled eggs!
My initial desire with Silver Welsummers was to use them alongside my Silver Ameraucanas in a Silver Olive Program. But after loosing several of these ladies as a result of Hurricane Helene I’ve decided to put that project on hold until 2026 (ish) and focus on building my Welsummer flock in the spring.
Hatching Eggs $65 / $90 Per Dozen Shipped
American Bresse
American Bresse are a dual purpose breed who are named after the town they originated from in France. They are one of the top choices and most revered meat birds in France.
As a dual purpose breed Bresse are a great choice for those of us just beginning to dip into the waters of sustainable farming and harvesting our own meat.
Bresse will be ready for harvest between 6-9 months, or they will do well to live as production egg layers for the duration of their long lives.
They are great foragers and daily egg layers of large cream / white eggs.
Hatching Eggs $60 per dozen / $85 per dozen shipped
Silkies/Satins/Frizzles
Our Silkie pen is "fun pen" filled with mixed colors of silkie, satin, frizzled and showgirl hens along side silkie and showgirl roosters. Eggs from this group will offer a really great chance for showgirls in every hatch. We love the variety of feathering and coloring that their offspring produce! We've heard silkies referred to as the "kittens" of the chicken world and that is a perfect analogy. Our silkies are also great broody mommas. Hatching Eggs: $55 per dozen/$80 per dozen shipped
